PRESENTATION OF THE ÉVANGÉLINE REGION

Location
Prince Edward Island is divided into three counties: Prince, Queens and Kings. The Evangeline region is located in Prince County, along the Northumberland Strait, between Bedeque Bay and Egmont Bay, about twenty kilometres from the city of Summerside. This area includes both the Egmont Bay and Mont Carmel parishes and the villages of Abram-Village and Wellington.

The region has an area of approximately 140 km2 and a population that stands at around 2,000 people. The majority of the population is concentrated in the two villages of Abram-Village and Wellington. In the 2001 census, Abram-Village had a population of 342 people while Wellington contained 382. Each village has a town council of which the residents are the members. For more information with sound and pictures, click on the following link:

Many consider the small village of Wellington to be the centre of the Evangeline Region because it has many public services such as the credit union, post office, old-age home, liquor store, SBDA, health clinic, educational institute, college, and many other small stores.

Abram-Village is the other village in the region. It contains the Evangeline School, the recreation centre, a gym, a corner store, and the Expo-Centre, which hosts the agriculture expo and the Acadian Festival.
